One of the most famous cathedrals in the world, its name means “Our Lady” and refers to the Virgin Mary. Notre Dame Cathedral is a symbol of Paris and a pop culture icon, appearing in film and literature. Its construction lasted more than 180 years (1163–1345). The cathedral is 127 metres long, 48 metres wide, and the height of the vaults in the main nave exceeds 35 metres. The spire, made of wood clad with lead plates, was 40 metres high.
The fire of 15 April 2019 caused enormous damage, including the collapse of the roof, parts of the vaults, and the spire.
