The façade of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican is a monumental structure designed by Carlo Maderno in the early 17th century. It has a classical form with a colonnade and large windows, from which the famous “Habemus Papam” is announced. The central point of the façade is the balcony called the loggia of blessings, from which the pope addresses the faithful. Statues of the apostles and Christ adorn the whole, emphasising the sacred character of the place.
